3D Laser Survey
Offshore Ghana

ADUS DeepOcean, a subsidiary of DeepOcean Group Holding BV, has completed a 3D laser survey offshore Ghana for Tullow Oil. The survey operations covered 12 drill center locations and a total of 27 metrologies in 800-to-1,800-m water depth, setting new benchmarks for high-resolution contextual 3D survey while proving an alternative and rapid “contactless” solution to conventional metrology surveys.

The dynamic laser survey solution, from a moving ROV, comprised a deep-rated 2G Robotics ULS 500 Pro Laser and Sonardyne’s SPRINT INS system. The accurate 3D point clouds resulting from the survey and modeling techniques are providing engineers with quantitative, contextual information to better inform IMR tasks and undertake metrology.

The success of these operations led to a further three-year contract for DeepOcean Ghana Ltd.


RSS Weighs Vessel
Bound for Oilfield

Rope and Sling Specialists (RSS) has provided load cells, weighing expertise and rigging equipment for offshore plant equipment manufacturer Charles Thompson Ltd. for loading out a vessel. RSS provided maximum gross weight of the 28.3-m-long, 5.6-m-diameter load; proof load test of a spreader beam; and supply of rigging equipment, including round slings and shackles.

The vessel was bound for the Johan Sverdrup oilfield on the Norwegian Shelf.


Genesis Gets FEED
Contract for MJ Field

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has awarded Genesis a contract to undertake the front end engineering design (FEED) for the deepwater development of MJ field of block KG-DWN-98/3 in the Bay of Bengal.

This project will consider a seven-well gas condensate discovery producing via two subsea drill centers and tied back to an FPSO. The work will be managed from the Genesis head office in London.


ISA CEO Urges
Cyberattack Protection

Patrick J. Gouhin, executive director and CEO of the International Society of Automation (ISA), at the Bloomberg LIVE conference in Houston, Texas, urged U.S. oil and gas energy executives to take action to protect their facilities and operations from cyberattack.

“Given the increasing number of cyberattacks on oil and gas facilities, the importance of these facilities to the economy and national security, and the fact that there are effective cybersecurity standards for the energy industry available today, the time to act is now—not years in the future,” Gouhin told an audience of approximately 100 senior technology executives and government officials.

Gouhin pointed to ISA’s series of industrial automation and control system (IACS) security standards (ISA/IEC 62443) as a flexible framework for preventing and limiting potentially devastating cyber damage to the industrial systems and networks used in oil and gas facilities and other critical infrastructure.

While the U.S. does not legally require implementation of industrial cybersecurity standards and best practices, the government has developed a voluntary plan, the U.S. Cybersecurity Framework, to guide U.S. industry and operators and owners of critical infrastructure to strengthen cyber defenses.


Fugro to Supply Baseline
Data for XPRIZE

Fugro has partnered with the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE to support first-round testing of the global, three-year competition, which incentivizes development of rapid, unmanned and high-resolution ocean mapping technologies. Fugro will provide high-resolution deepwater baseline bathymetry data over a 500-sq. km competition area.

Fugro will acquire the seafloor data using a deepwater AUV equipped with sonar-based survey systems. This information will be used to ground-truth the work of 21 semifinalist teams advancing to Round One of the competition. First-round testing for semifinalist teams is scheduled to commence September 2017. Fugro will acquire, process and deliver the baseline data sets in advance.


iSURVEY to Provide
Positioning, Survey Support

Following two years of successful operations, iSURVEY Pte Ltd., Singapore, has again been awarded a marine construction survey support contract with Solstad Offshore Asia Pacific for works onboard the DLB Norce Endeavour.

Due to commence March 2017, with options for extension in 2018 and 2019, the four-month contract will see iSURVEY provide positioning and survey support to Solstad Offshore Asia Pacific’s 2017 pipeline and platform installation program in Thailand.

The workscope includes monitoring during jacket setting, together with final positioning, leveling and survey assistance during pile cut-off. Subsea positioning will also integrate with IKM Subsea’s Merlin work-class ROV during installation operations.


TDI Completes Coring
Program for TGS Gigante

TDI-Brooks International Inc., under contract to TGS, completed an exploration geochemistry program in the southern Gulf of Mexico consisting of 1,180 USBL positioned piston cores for geochemistry, with an additional 120 heat flow measurements for basin modeling and 120 20-m “jumbo” piston cores for stratigraphic analysis and age dating.

The TGS Gigante Mexico Gulf of Mexico Multibeam and Coring Program was the world’s largest offshore seep-hunting survey, covering the vast offshore sector of Mexico, including the Perdido fold belt and Campeche Bay.

TDI-Brooks is in the first stage with TGS to collect cores with advanced geochemistry analysis for the TGS Otos multibeam and seep study project in the U.S Gulf of Mexico. The survey is designed to mirror the Gigante multibeam and seep study in the Mexican Gulf of Mexico conducted in 2016. The new program will cover approximately 289,000 sq. km and include 250 navigated piston cores with 750 baseline petroleum advanced geochemistry analysis, 25 jumbo piston cores and 25 heat flow stations.
