Oregon Iron Works & Vigor Industrial Combine
Oregon Iron Works (OIW), based in Clackamas, Oregon, and Vigor Industrial (Portland, Oregon) announced that the companies are merging to unite their strengths in advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding and ship repair. Under the terms of the merger, OIW will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Vigor Industrial.
The combination creates innovation and the infrastructure and financial strength needed to pursue more complex projects.
PDS License Transfer to Smart 3D
Intergraph (Madison, Alabama) announced that the engineering and project management company AMEC (Knutsford, England) has chosen to upgrade its investment in PDS to Intergraph Smart 3D technology by transferring its existing PDS perpetual licenses to Smart 3D licenses.
AMEC is a longtime user of Intergraph solutions and is committed to establishing global expertise in Smart 3D, Intergraph's next-generation, data-centric and rule-driven 3D design tool. AMEC will implement Smart 3D across its enterprise to capture new business and support existing projects.
Light & Motion Supports Cousteau Mission 31
Light & Motion (Marina, California), manufacturer of underwater, bike and outdoor LED lights, has sponsored Fabien Cousteau's Mission 31. Fabien Cousteau, the grandson of undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau, is conducting a 31-day mission to live and work under the sea in the Aquarius habitat, located 63 feet below the ocean's surface in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The team will be diving six to nine hours a day around the Aquarius habitat and the Light & Motion GoBe Search and Sola Dive lights will help the divers identify marine life and conduct scientific surveys.
Aviation Pinger Line Sold to RJE International Inc.
RJE International Inc. (Irvine, California) and Teledyne Benthos (North Falmouth, Massachusetts) announced the sale of the Benthos aviation pinger product line, which includes the ELP-362D Underwater Locator Beacon, to RJE. In this transaction, the Benthos intellectual property related to the manufacturing of underwater locator pingers for aviation black boxes and associated accessories has been sold to RJE, who will build and manufacture pingers for the aviation market.
Triggerfish T4H ROV Finds Drowning Victim
An emergency rescue squad responded to a call from a home in Butler, Tennessee, when they were informed that a 21-year-old male guest had not been seen since early that morning.
Utilizing a Deep Ocean Engineering Inc. (San Jose, California) Triggerfish T4H outfitted with a Kongsberg (Kongsberg, Norway) MS 1100 mini-head sonar, rescue squad personnel were able to locate the drowning victim's body 20 to 25 feet below the surface. They were able to operate from their pontoon station versus their optional land-based setup.
Marine Composits Company Projects $325,000 Investment
DeepWater Buoyancy (Biddeford, Maine) is planning to invest more than $300,000, creating 15 new manufacturing jobs in Maine's maritime industry.
The company will manufacture syntactic foam products at its Biddeford plant. These products will be used for a variety of subsea operations for the oceanographic, oil and gas, and industrial markets.
AWT Collaborates with KVH Industries to Deliver Weather Data
Applied Weather Technology Inc. (AWT), based in Sunnyvale, California, announced a partnership with KVH Industries Inc. (Middletown, Rhode Island) to deliver AWT's BVS high-resolution weather data via the KVH IP-MobileCast WEATHERlink service.
Weather forecasts and ocean data will be delivered to vessels at sea via KVH IP-MobileCast, a service utilizing multicasting technology for a fixed, monthly fee. The data will be updated up to four times per day to help ships optimize voyage planning and safety.
Oceaneering Announces Acquisition of AIRSIS
Oceaneering International Inc. (Houston, Texas) acquired AIRSIS Inc. (San Diego, California), a provider of remote asset management software services. The acquisition is expected to enhance Oceaneering's current asset tracking service offered on offshore drilling rigs and vessels engaged in subsea activities. Asset tracking information is utilized by customers to establish a common operating picture, which improves operational efficiency and enables incident and emergency response collaboration and reporting.
Phoenix Conducts Successful Search And Recovery Of Spanish Super Puma Helicopter
Phoenix International Holdings Inc. (Largo, Maryland) completed an underwater search-and-recovery operation for the Spanish Ministry of Defence (MOD) to recover a Super Puma helicopter that crashed into the sea on March 19, 2014, off the Canary Islands in 2,365 meters of seawater. Phoenix deployed personnel and the Remora 2 ROV to Gran Canaria Island. Search operations were conducted using Remora 2 and the vehicle's Simrad 1071 scanning sonar.
Harbor Branch to Purchase Three LOBO Units
The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation (Fort Pierce, Florida) board of directors has awarded a $559,295 grant to Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch to fund the purchase and operation of three land/ocean biogeochemical observatory (LOBO) units to be deployed in the Indian River Lagoon in St. Lucie and Indian River counties in Florida.
A LOBO is a water monitoring system that provides high-quality, long-term reliable data.
US Coast Guard Approves Willard Marine Solas Rescue Boat
The U.S. Coast Guard has approved Willard Marine Inc.'s (Anaheim, California) SEA FORCE 670 SOLAS rescue boat. Willard Marine has received orders to deliver four of the new boats to the U.S. Military Sealift Command, as well as one for the Texas A&M Maritime Academy training ship MV General Rudder. The Coast Guard approval signifies that the Willard Marine rescue boat meets the standards established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) treaty and Title 46 Code of Federal Regulations.
IMS Dredges Receives US Presidential Award
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented IMS Dredges (Prairie Village, Kansas) with the President's 'E' Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The 'E' Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. During the awards ceremony Secretary Pritzker gave special recognition to IMS for their exporting success.
ORPC's RivGen Power System Welcomed to Alaska
Ocean Renewable Power Co. (Portland, Maine), ORPC, kicked off its first installation of ORPC technology in Alaska at a formal gathering attended by more than 70 people. The event featured the company's RivGen Power System.
A self-deploying submersible hydrokinetic system designed for smaller river applications in water depths of 15 feet or more, the RivGen Power System will be installed and operated in the Kvichak River at the Village of Igiugig, Alaska, this summer.
Peptide Technologies Inc. Signs Distribution Agreement
Peptide Technologies Inc. (Seattle, Washington) signed an exclusive global distribution agreement for its AquaNatural Marine coating with All-Sea Coatings Ltd. (Vancouver, Canada). The agreement with All-Sea Coatings provides a sales conduit and exclusive rights for the AquaNatural Marine coating. All-Sea Coatings will be responsible for deployment and commercialization in both the commercial and leisure marine marketplace. The AquaNatural Marine Coating is a customizable friction-reduction paint formula for stationary or mobile marine assets.
ASL Builds Custom Acoustic Instrument
ASL Environmental Sciences Inc. (Victoria, Canada) has been awarded a $0.5 million contract by the University of Georgia to build a reciprocal transmission acoustic scintillation instrument to measure the flow dynamics of a hydrothermal vent plume. The instrument will be installed at the NEPTUNE cabled observatory at the Endeavour hydrothermal vent site, approximately 300 kilometers off the west coast of Vancouver Island, Canada, in 2,200 meters water depth. The deployment is scheduled for 2016.
Mitcham Industries Announces Acquisition
Mitcham Industries Inc. (Huntsville, Texas) announced that its subsidiary, Seamap Pte Ltd. (Singapore), which designs, manufactures and sells specialized marine seismic equipment, has acquired the marine energy source product lines from ION Geophysical Corp. (Houston, Texas). The product lines acquired are the Digishot energy source controller and the Sleeve Gun energy source, including related inventories, intellectual property, trademarks and patents.
