Nathaniel “Nat” Usher joined in September Tesla Offshore LLC (Prairieville, Louisiana) as director of geoscience. For the past 30 years, he has worked for ARCO/BP. He will assist Tesla in optimizing use of its geophysical survey operations and further develop geohazards interpretation services.

Hydroid Inc. (Pocasset, Massachusetts) has hired Matt Lang as a senior proposal associate, where he will be responsible for proposal development and preparing quotes. Previously, Lang was a proposal coordinator for CG Power Solutions in Albany, New York.

Dr. Andrew Garrad became in October the nonexecutive chairman of GL Group’s (Hamburg, Germany) renewables division. He will hand day-to-day leadership responsibility for the GL Group’s renewable energy business segment to Dr. R.V. Ahilan, who will become president of the business.

UTEC (Houston, Texas) has appointed Sean Halpin as global AUV manager and U.S. geophysical manager. A graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy, he has worked with hydrographic survey equipment since the age of 18. Prior to UTEC, he worked for a U.S. defense contractor and a deepwater engineering firm.

Jon Robertson will take over the role of managing director at Saab Seaeye Ltd. (Fareham, England), after Dave Grant stepped down from the position in September to pursue other interests. Grant made valuable contributions in the ROV business for offshore oil and gas.

The U.K. Hydrographic Office has appointed Royal Navy Commodore Tom Karsten as the next U.K. national hydrographer, deputy chief executive of hydrography. Karsten, currently the Commander British Forces Gibraltar, will be promoted to rear admiral on appointment and will take over from RAdm. Nick Lambert in December.

Charles Industries Ltd. (Rolling Meadows, Illinois) in September named Fred Kolacki as national sales manager of its marine group. His responsibilities include pricing strategy, marketing plan development and execution, and management of Charles’ marine sales representative team.

Jim Gibson was hired in July as general manager of Phoenix International Holdings Inc.’s (Largo, Maryland) facility in Largo. He will be responsible for overseeing and directing undersea operations and engineering business lines.

Scott Ward has joined Jensen Maritime Consultants (Seattle, Washington) as a naval architect in the company’s new office in New Orleans, Louisiana. Before joining Jensen he worked at American Bureau of Shipping.
