Rental Firms Buy, Stock Sonardyne 6G Equipment
Sonardyne International Ltd. (Yateley, England) received orders for its 6G positioning equipment from four Aberdeen, Scotland-based equipment rental companies in March: DPS Offshore, Unique System (UK) Ltd., Ashtead Technology and Seatronics.

Unique System UK ordered £1 million of Fusion LBL 6G equipment to be added to its inventory in Aberdeen, which will be made available for use on survey construction projects in Europe. Ashtead Technology bought $1.4 million in equipment, including Compatt 6 transponders equipped with sound velocity digiquartz and inclinometer sensors; ROVNav6 LBL transceivers; Lodestar GyroCompatt 6 instruments; and acoustic release transponders.

DPS Offshore purchased Sonardyne’s Dunker 6 and ROV­Nav 6 positioning and telemetry transceivers for its rental stock of 6G equipment. Seatronics placed an order for Compatt transponders to add to its Aberdeen equipment pool, which will be available for projects in Europe and Africa. For more information, click here.


CDL Selects iXBlue IMU 50 for TOGS 2 Line
The second generation of CDL Ltd.’s (Aberdeen, Scotland) TOGS subsea gyrocompass will use iXBlue’s (Marlyle-Roi, France) fiber-optic-gyro-based inertial measurement units. The companies signed an agreement in March for the supply of iXBlue’s IMU 50 units.


EIVA to Distribute Teledyne Gavia, AML Oceanographic Products
EIVA A/S (Hasselager, Denmark) in March became a distributor for AML Oceanographic (Sidney, Canada) and Teledyne Gavia (Kópavogur, Iceland).

Teledyne Gavia named EIVA as its sole representative in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, meaning EIVA will be able to supply the Gavia AUV to those countries. EIVA and AML Oceanographic have signed a distributor agreement, under which EIVA can resell AML Oceanographic products. These items will be available for integration in the EIVA ScanFish towed ROV and other sensors.


Ocean Sonics to Manufacture icListen Hydrophone
Instrument Concepts Inc. (Great Village, Canada) announced a new affiliate company, Ocean Sonics Ltd. (Great Village), in March. Ocean Sonics will manufacture the icListen HF Smart Hydrophone, which was launched in March, and related products, and Instrument Concepts will focus on consulting and marine systems integration.


Human-Powered Sub Races to Be Held in Europe
The European International Submarine Races (eISR) will be held outside of the U.S. for the first time in Gosport, England, at QinetiQ’s (Farnborough, England) Ocean Basin freshwater tank the week of June 25.

The Ocean Basin, which measures 122 meters by 61 meters and 5.5 meters deep, is used to assess the maneuverability of scale ship and submarine models in various sea conditions. During eISR, it will host submarines, typically 3  to 4 meters long, from Canada, France, Oman, the U.K. and the U.S. The teams will race their submarines, which are flooded and usually travel up to 7 knots, piloted and pedaled by a scuba diver. Tritech Technology Selected for Nautilus Project
Tritech International Ltd. (Aberdeen, Scotland) has supplied its Gemini multibeam sonars for installation on Wallsend, England-based Soil Machine Dynamics’ (SMD) vehicles built for the Nautilus Minerals Inc. (Toronto, Canada) Solwara 1 Project.

In addition to the sensory equipment supplied, Tritech has configured a subsea visualization system; a modular software package to process and display the real-time external sensor data and sonar imagery in an augmented reality view. The visualization system will be used in conjunction with SMD subsea production tools for the recovery of seafloor massive sulfides in this project. For more informations, click here.


VSAT Maritime Facility to Open in Singapore
Applied Satellite Technology Ltd. (Great Yarmouth, England) will open in May a VSAT Maritime Broadband Solutions Centre in Singapore. The center is the first in AST’s global rollout of VSAT facilities, the company said.

The existing Singapore office, AST Singapore - AST Asia Pte Ltd., will be managed by Henrik Jacobsen, who will also continue as managing director for AST Australia. AST Distribution will still operate from Singapore, under the management of director Nicholas Lee. For more informations, click here.


FoundOcean Grouts Offshore Wind Farm
FoundOcean (Marlow, England), contracted to Geosea nv (Zwijndrecht, Belguim), completed in March the offshore foundation grouting at Thornton Bank Offshore Wind Farm Phase II, 30 kilometers off the coast of Oostende, Belgium. The project on the wind farm, which is owned by Cpower (New York, New York), began in May 2011.

Geosea loaded out and installed the four-legged jackets, designed by OWEC Tower AS (Bergen, Norway), in water depths between 15 and 20 meters. The jackets were secured to the seabed by grouting the annuli between the stab-in legs and predriven piles. FoundOcean grouted 24 turbine foundations and an offshore transformer station foundation. During the project some 1,500 grout cubes were manufactured for testing characteristic strengths at 24 hours, three days and 28 days, FoundOcean said. For more informations, click here.


HME Opens Singapore Branch Office
HME (Rotterdam, Netherlands) launched its Singapore branch office in March to support international maritime trade between Southeast Asia and the Netherlands, acting as a hub for companies on both ends, HME said.

Fourteen Dutch maritime companies signed up to get assistance from the office: Aquality BV, Corrosion & Water Control BV, CSI Control Systems, Deno Compressors BV, Holland Ship Service BV, Kwant Controls BV, Loggers BV, Machine & Lierenfabriek C. Kraaijeveld BV, Maritime Consult, Nederlandse Radiateurenfabriek (NRF) BV, Oliveira Hydro Marine & Shipping, Rubber Design, Serdijn Ship Repair BV and Wetering Rotterdam.
